Taking stock of Applied Linguistics: Where are we now?
The new millennium brought many trends and changes in applied linguistics, for example the increasing use of interdisciplinary approaches in the field, interest in corpus-based studies, the use of new media as data sources and as new environments of communication – which in turn developed new ways of communicating and influenced language. At the same time, processes that have started in the old millennium are continuing to develop and influence the field, such as globalisation, migration and its implications on how languages are used. The conference theme was chosen because we feel that it is time to reflect on these developments and to take stock of where the field is now by looking at the past and present, and understanding the developments of the field.
A selection of papers presented at the conference will be published online in the BAAL2016 conference proceedings and a separate call for contributions to these proceedings will go out after the conference.
